Pretty Colors-Double Post

Hi, all! Sorry to have been absent for so long, but I've had two papers and a presentation over the past week and caught a bad cold, so I haven't had the time or the energy to blog. I have been recording my outfits faithfully, though-so I'll try and do double outfit posts for the next couple of days to make up for it. Because I like doing things out of chronological order (Memento and Kill Bill are two of my favorite films, after all), I'll start with my outfit from yesterday:

Terribly girly, isn't it? I must admit, I felt quite Goth Barbie-in the best possible way! I told myself when I came to NZ that I could make it on black, white, and red for three months, but dang it, the colors just keep a sneakin' in. I can't resist 'em! This skirt is actually so much more awesome than in the photo-it is a vivid, hot Barbie pink with a shimmery over-layer and a taffeta underskirt. It rustles when I walk. Words can't express how happy it makes me! 

Today, I did color a little more subdued:

Far more subdued than yesterday, but still elegant and fun! Again, the color of the dress just didn't photograph as nicely; in real life it is a much richer soft olive than the weird blue-y green that's showing here. It's a little big, hence my wearing it with the corset-when I get home and have my sewing machine again, I'll take it in to fit perfectly. It's a really nice heavy satin, and cut on the bias, so it moves beautifully. I really like this style of dress: multiple panels and gores, fitted in the bodice and full through the skirt. Plus, it was $4.50 (the $4.50 rack at Recycle Boutique will be the death of me in overweight baggage fees when I fly home), so I figured it was totally worth it. I missed you guys, and it's good to be back-tune in tomorrow for another double post!

Green and Black Day 2

Hello! Sorry to have missed yesterday, but I have an outfit picture to share! I am prepping to shoot my film for Production, so I will still try to post, but they might be on the brief-ish side-not as much unrelated rambling...er, witty discourse as usual. Also, I wanted to make this a double post, but internet failure is not letting me upload the second picture, so I will do the double post tomorrow instead. So without further ado, here is yesterday's outfit:

It's simple, but I like to think it worked! Hmm, not much else to say about this outfit, except that I always feel rather Peter Pan when wearing green tights. And that's fun! These are more teal then true green, TBH, but when you haunt the discount bins at Target to feed your tights addiction, you take what you can get. :)

Back to Black (And Green)...

Wow, after October's patterns and the craziness of the first week of November, it seems almost...pedestrian to go back to my color-themed weeks-when I have the time between class, work, and everything else to breathe, I might have to come up with some different unique/interesting themes! But for now, I'll just settle for a slightly less than typical Goth color combo, though one of my personal favorites: black and green:

Words cannot express how happy this skirt makes me. Full, ruffled, wonderfully rustle-y taffeta, in a unique, pretty plaid-and it spins like nobody's business when I twirl in it. (Any fool knows this is the number one measure of awesomeness in skirts!) My roommate said I looked very Scottish today, and I took it for the compliment it was. Stay tuned for more green, and brace yourself for a series of really bad puns in my post titles for the rest of the week. :P

So I basically have enough lace stuff in my wardrobe that I could probably do an entire month's worth of outfits, just made out of various lace items. These are just a few of my favorites. Even though the corset in the first one is a fashion corset rather than a real one, it's just so pretty that I forgive it its plastic boning and cheap busk-I love that particular shade of green, and black lace is my third biggest weakness, right after corsets and striped socks. Or, really, any color of lace. I have an especial love of lined stretch lace tops-in addition to this cami, I have an olive green one, two black ones (one of which is kind of falling apart because it's been worn so much...sadface), a purple one and a red one. They are so fun, subtly sexy, and easy to wear! I definitely like stretch lace better in tops, though-the skirt I'm wearing in the first outfit is cheap stretch lace, and it's definitely showing, with all the lovely plastic-y threads hanging out and fraying around the edges. Despite my current almost-moratorium on buying new stuff, I would definitely spring for a long non-stretch black lace skirt!

New Colors for a New Post

Goodness, but have been a terribly negligent blogger lately! I do apologize for my absence from the cyber-world, but I have been re-packing trying to get ready to go back to college and I have honestly been dressing to combat the heat more than to look awesome, so the combination has led to no blog posts. I'm back, though-I've done a lot of sewing that I just have to post about, and I'm starting to develop a better sense of hot-weather Gothiness. Today, I was just going to meeting, so I knew I'd be inside in the cool, so I dared to wear a corset. Love my corsets, but in hot weather the three layers of fabric can really make for a Sweaty McGee me-I wanted to wear one badly enough today to risk it, though!

You'll be seeing a lot more of these dresses as I go back to school and have outfits everyday-they are one of my favorite things to wear. Throw one of the five of them on with one of my multiple corsets, and I have an instant, elegant, easy outfit. I think this corset was a little nicer to wear than some of my others might have been because it is silk rather than poly or PVC, so it breathes a lot better. I wasn't sure about the ivory/cream and forest green color combination initially, but I actually think it's a really good coordinate. As much as I love my blacks, I want to try and branch out from my black/everything color combinations this year and try some other, more unusual ones-ivory and dark red, goldenrod and navy blue, aubergine and gray all being colors I have in my wardrobe but haven't really worn together because I usually wear them individually with black. Do any of you have favorite non-black but still goth-y color combinations that you like? 

Green with Envy

Today I had more fittings at East, but I was feeling a little like it was a "dress-up" kind of day, so I pulled out one of my favorite corsets to wear. The nice thing about this corset is it's so gorgeous, I don't really need to put much into the rest of the outfit-the corset really speaks for itself.

The top is actually a pajama top from Wal-Mart clearance, but it's simple and comfortable, so I wear it with corsets and vests a lot.

Here's a close-up of the print on the corset-it's a gorgeous, richly embroidered brocade. I actually like it so much I got another one in cream and black from the same company. Green and black is one of my favorite color combos-it looks as crisp and pops as much as red and black, but is used a little less frequently. And green, all shades, is one of my favorite colors. Ok, to be perfectly honest, there aren't many colors I don't love, (puce, chartreuse, and beige?) but green is high on my list of favorites. The lovely Erin McKean, who blogs at Dress A Day, once said "Despite my own penchant for bright grass green, which I would venture to guess is the Anti-Goth color (brimming as it is with life and vulgar cheerfulness), I have a not-so-secret fondness and admiration for the Full-On Goth." Erin, you're fabulous, but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree-Green can totally be a Goth color. It is, after all, the shade of absinthe and some supernatural spirits and ghosts! Do any of you have a favorite color that isn't generally considered "goth-y" that you like to work into your Goth ensembles?
